Doctor Strange (2016)

Since the movie was only released this morning and hasn’t come out in the States yet, I will keep this as short and spoiler free as possible.

First 30 minutes = Boring, followed by “wow that was trippy man, what were the writers smoking?”, little more boring, some humour, then “holy shit that was so cool and sounds exactly like the story I started writing shit I must have read that in the comics why  omg that looks freakin awesome”, mild confusion with super-amaze-balls fights, roll credits with pretty graphics, mid-credit scene Avenger cameo, more credits, ending with a slightly confusing end of credit scene.

Too confusing? Okay I will simplify.

Why watch it? doctor-strange-teaser-poster.jpg

  1. Benedict Cumberbatch.
  2. Benedict Cumberbatch’s impression of an american accent.
  3.  Cloak of Levitation.
  4. If you like kaleidoscopes.
  5. First magic power based character in the MCU since Loki that didn’t gain powers from a magical object.
  6. Time Manipulation.
  7. Tilda Swinton’s fighting prowess.
  8. Inception+ The Matrix + Batman Begins, but with magic.
  9. Beyonce jokes.
  10. A goatee that could rival Tony Stark’s.

I give it a 4 out of 5.

Luke Cage (2016)

Luke Cage is okay. That’s it. It’s okay. I would not rate it as highly as Daredevil, but it is still good. The title character was pretty good in Jessica Jones and his own show, but nothing was particularly memorable to me.

The episodes were very predictable, there were a few too many monologues. Not to mention, there were too many villains. I was also annoyed by the amount of questions that won’t be answered until season two. There was also a lot of name drops of people who are apparently important but never see. I hope I don’t have to remember them for next season.

What was good about the show? The music, the prison episode, and Mariah Dillard in the episode “Manifest”.

Otherwise I was unimpressed with the show. It had promise but ultimately led nowhere.
